Structure

Yu is formed by Thunder (Zhen ☳) above Earth (Kun ☷). Thunder bursts from the earth — sudden, powerful, and resonant. The image is of energy that has been building underground finally breaking through to the surface. The earth responds; everything moves.

Core meaning

The central message of Yu is that this is a moment when energy and enthusiasm can be channeled productively. The hexagram is associated with music, celebration, and the kind of collective inspiration that allows large groups to move together.
