Changing lines

Changing lines are the lines in a cast that are treated as active or moving. They matter because they suggest that the situation is not entirely fixed and that change, transition, or emphasis is part of the reading.

A changing line does not automatically mean a dramatic event. More often, it marks where the pressure, movement, or turning point is concentrated.

In practice, readers usually begin with the overall shape of the hexagram, then ask what the active lines add. That keeps the reading grounded instead of letting one detail take over everything.
