Xunkong

Xunkong, often translated as “void” or “empty branches,” is a technical timing and relevance concept in traditional practice. Readers use it as one factor that may weaken, defer, or complicate how a line expresses itself.

Because xunkong depends on calendrical structure, it is easy to oversimplify online. A safe beginner understanding is that it can signal something not yet landing fully, not yet present, or temporarily lacking force.

It should not be treated as an automatic cancellation button. In actual reading practice, people weigh it together with the question, the overall hexagram, line movement, and other timing factors.

That makes xunkong useful, but only inside a disciplined method.
